It's official: "Sundays in America" has a cover!

Sundays in America Here's an early look at the cover of the book that'll be out in March from Beacon Press. I did the final edits at Beacon's Boston headquarters a few weeks ago and got a look at this final version of the cover that day. I also met with my new publicist, Gina Frey and she and I are beginning a calendar of readings and signings for the new book. Anyone who'd like to book a "Sundays in America" reading or signing at a bookstore, library, social club or book group is invited to contact me (sess7@comcast.net) or Gina (gfrey@beacon.org). I'll be traveling throughout the country to promote the book next spring and soon will be adding the first few dates to this site's events page.

Also make a point to visit Beacon Press' new blog, Beacon Broadside, featuring essays, news items, and dispatches from Beacon authors, authors who serve as advisors or friends of the house, and staff. It will also be a forum for discussion, with all posts open for comments by readers.

I'm starting some new stories and also have been working with others who are crafting their own. I recently led a workshop on Maine's Deer Isle, part of an annual retreat offered by Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, and will be at Writers in Progress in Florence, Mass., on Oct. 27 for a day-long workshop on using familiar settings in stories, novels and memoirs Some spaces remain available for the 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. event ($120, or $108 for WIP alums). To register, contact dorio@writersinprogress.com, phone (413) 582-0101 or visit www.writersinprogress.com.

Happy reading!
